CDBG-DR & EWP Little Thompson River Above North 83rd Street Restoration
The Little Thompson Watershed Coalition (LTWC) contracted with Frontier to construct a resilient stream channel design along approximately .45 miles of the Little Thompson in Boulder County, CO. The project was designed by Enginuity Engineering Solutions as part of the NRCS’s Emergency Watershed Protection (EWP) program. Funding was also provided from the Colorado Water Conservation Board (CWCB) and a Community Development Block Grant – Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) Watershed Resilience Pilot Program. A key component of this project was the removal of flood deposition including sediment and debris totaling over 16,000 cubic yards. The in-stream component of the project included a realignment of the Little Thompson through five and six feet of deposited fines. The new alignment was stabilized with two constructed riffle drops utilizing void filled riprap. The project also included bank stabilizations along two reaches using soil riprap and erosion control blankets. All disturbed slopes and constructed benches received, biosol, seed, and woodstraw. The project will be stabilized with over 4500 live stakes and over a thousand containerized plants. The project was subject to Davis-Bacon Act wage reporting. Frontier self-performed all aspects of the project.
