About the Project
City of Aurora awarded Frontier a contract to reconstruct and stabilize three reaches along the South Platte River adjacent to Prairie Water System’s North Campus Well Field. Each reach of riverbank addressed under this Project is approximately 1,000 feet in length, and subsequent to construction of the Well Field has experienced riverbank erosional damage resultant from channel alignment changes due to human and/or natural causes. The project included general grading and earthwork; dewatering and erosion control; removal of concrete debris; placement of 11,000 cubic yards of soil riprap; placement of 9500 SY of coir blankets; and over 5,000 plantings for wetland, upland, and transition zone vegetation as well as 5,000 willow stakes. The project was designed by Enginuity Engineering Solutions out of Littleton, CO. The project included working in the dry for installation of the riprap toe. Frontier utilized Muscle Wall portable barriers to accomplish this task. The project was constructed in an active channel which required surface water diversions, dewatering for the duration of the project, and management of stormwater events. The project also involved careful coordination and integration of adjacent landowners and private property owners.
